Many people fail to stick to their vegan or raw food lifestyle because they get bored with their food. Does that resonate with you? You start off strong, then after a few days or weeks, the thought of yet ANOTHER salad makes you want to scream!
Or you get home from work all tired and hungry and you really want something tasty because you’ve worked hard and you deserve a treat. BUT, you don’t want to spend a bunch of time in the kitchen so you end up grabbing something less healthy.
I hear you! Just because you’ve committed yourself to eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to be committed to depriving yourself. I hate flat mediocre food. That’s why I’ve scoured the Internet and countless recipe books to find the best recipes. Then I’ve given them the soulful Ama touch to make them really shine. And I’m committed to sharing with you so you can love your plant-based life. At the end of this post I’ll share how you can get access to some of my family pleasing meals.
Ok, so what’s the cure to boring? Here’s how to add some flavor and excitement to your plate.
Make a plan
Your choices are going to be limited and you’re more likely to gravitate to something less healthy if you wait till the last-minute to decide what to eat. That’s happened to me plenty of times. I am hungry and really want something that will please the tongue but all I can come up with at the moment is something cooked. That starts me down the slippery slope of eating more and more cooked food, and less and less raw foods.
By planning ahead I already know what I’m going to make AND I know what I need to do to make sure I have the necessary ingredients to make it happen. I can account for my schedule and activities and make sure on days when I’ll be running ragged, that I’ll have a fast option available.
Now that I have a plan I can go about stocking my kitchen with the components of a flavorful and fast meal so I can whip up a gourmet live food meal in a matter of minutes. On the weekends, or whenever I have extra time I fire up my dehydrator 😉 and make crackers, breads, wraps or taco shells. Whatever it is that will form the base of my meal plan for the week.
With these items on hand and 15-20 minutes I can pull together a gourmet live food meal. Like this week we are eating Mexican. I have taco shells and tostada shells I made over the weekend. I have some walnut taco “meat” and cashew sour cream I made on Monday. Today I can make some guacamole or just chop up some tomatoes, lettuce and avocado and in a matter of minutes have a pleasing meal.
Planing is the key! Make a plan and plan ahead. These two things will make a huge difference. But there is one more thing!
You’ve got to have some killer recipes in your repertoire that you want to eat.
Like I said earlier, I’ve scoured the Internet and countless recipe books to find the best recipes because, let’s face it, Nana Kwaku and I are serious Foodies! We love good food!
Once I’ve found some I like, I take the best parts of each recipe and put them together in a new way. I give it my special, soulful Ama touch to make the dish really shine. Then I keep tweaking until it’s just right. Once it’s taste tested and approved, I share my recipes with you so you can love your food and your vegan life too!
